Expections

She cried all night,

She smiled all day,

Confronted her feelings,

Then put them away.

She wanted to think,

But then she couldn’t,

It was her family,

They told her she shouldn’t.

She listened, obedient,

As ever one could be,

Invisible bars of a cage,

Her mind could never see.

She wanted to be free,

She tried to break out,

But in a loud silence,

The world ignores her shouts.

She was to be a wife,

Was to be a birth giver,

Yet even the thought,

Only made her shiver.

He wanted to cry all night,

He smiled all day,

Confronted his feelings,

Then put them away.

He wanted to think,

But then he couldn’t,

It was his family,

They told him he shouldn’t.

He listened, obedient,

As ever one could be,

Invisible bars of a cage,

His mind could never see.

He wanted to be free,

He tried to break out,

But in a loud silence,

The world ignored his shouts.

Everyone told him,

He had to earn bread,

Yet even the thought,

Only filled him with dread.
